Hello everybody,
Well got my new motor in my '70 F100, but cant get any spark out of 3 different coils! I get 12 volts at both sides of all three coils. I replaced the voltage regulator, everything in and on the motor is new. Cant make heads or tails out of it. I still have power at the coil when th key is in the start position as well. Motor cranks over fine. I tested with old points distributor and new mallory non-points distributor and all three coils (2 new & 1 old) I just dont know what I am missing. Any ideas anyone?
SD Are you using the original wire? Seems like when I put the new system in my 66 that I had the same problem. I finally pulled the old coil wire over to the new coil and bingo, we had liftoff.

In the still cool hours of the night, you can hear chevys rusting away.
I did get it running after all. It turned out that my new Mallory distributor is not working. I ended up testing the old worn out points distributor and lo and behold woke up the whole neighborhood. It ended up being about 11:00 PM when it roared to life with open headers. it sure is a relief though because everything checked out. It turned out that I was not tightening down the distributor enough to get a good ground.
Thanks for your help,
Scott
I don't know about the Mallory dist. but on the duraspark I know exactly what your problem is! (My guess would be the same for the Mallory).
Check the ground wire inside the distributor! where it screws down to the distributor body. My guess is that it is not grounded real tight (or clean i.e. paint etc.). Incredably common problem, but causes the most "hair pulling" of all ignition problems.
