PatC .... lemme check on what you gotta do in Vista ...I think it's pretty much the same.....Explore it, man...if you aren't sure, don't CHANGE anything, just browse thru it....You'll NEVER learn if you don't LOOK! Now gonna ask a real stupid question..... you got any DATA on that computer that would kill you if you lost it??? In other words, do you back up your data?

Don't have anything backed up, nothing really important there. Have thought about it, talked to Best Buy about my " Free " upgrade to Windows 7 that came with the computer when I bought it ( wasn't out then ). They said they'll give me a FREE disc, but I have to remove Vista first OR I can bring it in to them & pay $45.00 to have it done. It was suggested I back up everything first. They said it would take several hours to back up everything & that I had to sit here & change the discs when I did it. Yes, discs plural. They say it usually takes about 4 or 5. Since I don't know what I'm doing, I've just kinda been sitting here with a bunch of empty DVDs. They said they work better than regular CDs because they hold more?
Backup: Much easier way. Buy an external hard drive and it comes with it's own back-up software. Push button and it backs it up!

Start with "Computers For Dummies". Despite the title, it's a pretty good book. Yes, I believe it IS in the library. Also look for VISTA For Dummies. You don't have to upgrade to Ver 7. PC Magazine has good tips every month. I subscribe...
If you don't have valuable data on your computer and just it use it for internet purposes, you don't need to back-up at all. What is brand and model of your computer?

Didn't you get any manuals or papers with the computer......Can't you LOOK at the computer...front - side -- back and LOOK at the label???? Manufacturer and Model ain't no big deal to see. No one is THAT stupid. If you are start enough to learn how to post pictures, you can read, right? Maybe I'm mixing up lazy with stupid??? Sounds like an HP, but may be a number of ones Best Buys sells.....OH...BTW, I AM joking with ya....
