ok i own a 92 150 straight 6 with the manual tranny. im only getting 5-6 mpg! somebody give me some advice as to whats wrong and how many mpg im supossed to be getting. ive already replaced the air filter, plugs, wires, cap, button. I drive this truck everyday and putting so much gas in it is really hurting my pocket
Sounds like you may have a bad MAP sensor or its vacuum line may be off.
But you need to pull the codes and see if you have any in CM in the computer.
This will give you a clue as to what is wrong.
You can go to: Ford Fuel Injection How To Run a Self-Test
and you can learn how or you can buy this code reader for about $30.00.
CM = Continuous Memory Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs)
Continuous Memory DTCs are issued as a result of information stored during Continuous Self-Test, while the vehicle was in normal operation. These DTCs are displayed only during Key On Engine Off Self-Test and after the separator pulse. Intermittent faults that have not occurred in the last 80 warm-up cycles (40 cycles on some applications) are erased from Continuous Memory and will not produce a Continuous Memory DTC.
5-6 mpg is near impossible from EFI problems alone so you may also have a fuel transfer problem between tanks(if the truck has dual tanks) and/or your milage calculation is off because of non-stock sized tires. Also check for a leaking fuel pressure regulator, high fuel pressure, or a stuck injector. Does the motor belch black smoke and foul plugs?

yes do have dual tanks, im running 31/10.50s on a 2in lift. and to answer ur question no it doesnt smoke and/or foul plugs. also if i remove the lift and go back to 235/75/15s how much would that help?
Going back to stock tire size will give you a more acurate odometer reading. I found on my older F150's that a 30x9.5-15 tire put the odometer about dead on. Ford usually has them read a little fast for some reason.
Very similar to my '92 f150...Mine has a e4od tranny instead...same tire size and 3.08 rears. I am lucky to get 13MPG on a good day (constant highway speeds) usally I get 10 to 11 around town.
Changing the tires won't help much, there are guys here with much bigger trucks with more lift and bigger tires getting a lot better milage, so you're going to have to check all the other things mentioned. Do both tanks function?
no both tanks dont function. ive only had this truck for about 3 months and when i got it the man said that the fuel pump in the front tank is shot. and just to check this for myself i switched it to the front tank and low and behold it really didnt work, truck just died. flipped to rear tank, cranked for a min and it started right up
OK so now you have to determine if fuel is being transferred to the front tank, obviously it should not be full if it hasn't been used for a long time.
Your fuel gauge should register if there is fuel in it. You can always dump a couple of gallons in to make sure there is fuel in it and proceed to check the fuel pump on that tank per the shop manual procedures.
