Happy New Year everyone!! Have some Christmas money left over and want to get a remote starter/alarm, so I know the pro's here at FTE will steer me in the right direction. Bring it on!!

Why not? It would allow you to let the truck warm up all the way before getting in. When I get a truck, I'd like for it to have remote start and high idle on the DP Tuner.

The block heater does a fine job of warming the truck for me, and I think there are to many variables on a diesel starting via remote compared to a gas job. Example..glow plugs...are they working or not. Just my opinion, many powerstrokers here do have it though.

Nothing wrong with having a remote start on your truck, I have the alarm too and with the remote start, the company that installed it took into consideration I had glow plugs that need to light up first so I have about a 20-30 second delay, which is adjustable if I want it changed, nice feature. Heres where I got mine 5 years ago, still working fine, lifetime warranty, even remotes. Auto and Truck alarms and remote car starters for Chester County and Wilmington Delaware

I have the Viper remote and alarm system. It has the extended antenna so you can actually start the truck from a block away. I use the remote start when I am at the lauch to warm up, before I pull the boat out of the water. It was installed on the van before I bought it. Just make sure that you get it installed by a dealer rep that knows the Ford diesel system.

I think remote starters are good for diesels as well, but i wouldn't start 'er up on high idle, you need to let 'er run for at least a min. before switching to high idle.

I think you're right. I changed my mind about the high idle after I wrote that.

I have the Viper alarm/remote start....love it!!!!

But the newest and trickest thing on the market is the Viper/iphone remote start. You can unlock doors, start and shut down truck, turn lights on/off anywhere in the country (or where ever) from your iphone has a cell signal

Awesome, my neighbor got one for christmas and its f&*^% cool!!

If none of your actuators work can you get an alarm and use the acutators in the alarm kit to have power door locks?? Just curious because if I have to replace all actuators I might as well get an alarm installed that way I can have an alarm and working door locks. Any thoughts?

I've got the viper 791xv remote starter/alarm.
Time delayed 30 seconds for start up, programmable run times..... mine is set to 24 minutes. I believe the other options are 12 min and something like 60 min. Great for getting the truck warmed up before hauling *#&.
This alarm also has a built in turbo timer to let the truck cool down after you turn the ignition off. The best build in feature for a remote start system IMO.

I won't own another truck without it.

I have had my Prestige remote starter for a few days now and it seems to work nicely. It is set with a 20 second delay on the start. I still have issues with my locks, but will address that sometime soon.

i have the viper.i forgot which model it is but it has the touchscreen remote that shows the actual truck on it.driver door is open and it shows that.when you start it it shows exhaust out the back.nifty little thing and never has let me down.the only thing you need to get for the ford if you go with that remote(possibly other)is the xk5 modulator.it overrides the dealership theft system so its able to start without a key.
