Ok so here is the deal. My truck never decides to not start except on sunday!!! i went out to start my truck on sunday, cycled the plugs a few times(it was cold). Truck starts just fine, so i go into the house and finish getting ready and suddenly i hear the idle fluctuate a few times so i go back outside and it is idling horribly. i climb into the truck sit there watching the tach and checking all my gauges, suddenly the rpms drop to between 150-200 and suddenly it dies. I try restarting it but nothing. Dont really have time to mess with it so i leave and come back go and later and try it still no start. So i pull the fuel filter and drained the fuel i find nothing in the fuel bowl. So i get back into the truck and turn the switch to on run back to the side and the bowl is already full so i know i have good fuel flow. SO i replace the filer cycle the key a few times and try still no start. And that is basically where it stands today. Any input ideas or suggestions would be greatly appreciated!!! TIA
Are you getting a wait to start light?
Check the oil level. If this gets low can cause a no start.
check the oil level in the hpop reservoir
check the cranking voltage. It should be greater than 10 volts.
try unplugging the icp sensor and try to start
does your tach bounce when cranking. Possible cps problem if not.
I'm no GURU, but I know several posts I've read start with checking the basics. Battery voltage is one hot topic. If there is not enough voltage, there won't be enough fire power. CPS would be another item of question. Then there would be, correct me someone if I'm wrong, the ICP sensor possibly? What about checking the oil level and possibly the oil level in the HPOP. These are the things that come to the front of my mind, but I'm sure there are many other things also.

Clay i am a lil confused, i still have my factory bowl heater.
Grant,
Wait to start light comes on for 9 sec.and goes off i wait an additional 15 just to be sure
Checked the oil level and is right where its supposed to be
Have not checked the oil in the HPOP res.
I have 11volts while cranking
ICP recently replaced so i unplugged it to be sure still no start
Yes tach does bounce when cranking.
I'm throwing this out there but I'm no expert on these things. A fuel pump can be weak and build up enough flow and pressure to start and run for a couple minutes, but be weak enough not to sustain the flow. Can't hurt to check it out, seeing as you said the fuel bowl was dry, or did you mean there was no debris in there?

Just checking to make sure the bowl heater didn't short out.
I agree with Keith to check the fuel pressure. I'm leaning toward a problem with the hpop system not building enough pressure to fire the injectors. Are you getting any smoke while cranking. Maybe someone near you has a scanner. If you don't know of anyone maybe go to the TN chapter and see if someone could help you out. Also, make sure your glow plug relay is working. Try plugging in your block heater and see if that makes a difference.
I am thinking 11 volts might be a little low for cranking/starting. Maybe try a charger or jump? Another thought, when my alternator was on it's way out, the truck started to run poorly. Still might be fuel pressure related also, I'm just throwing out the things that seem easiest to eliminate 1st.

I apologize i meant that there was no debris.
Clay,
I will take a look at the bowl heater as well as the batteries in the morning
Question, if the fuel bowl is full, would there be enough flow for a truck to at least fire or attempt to fire? I can understand that if the pump is weak that it might not supply enough fuel to keep it running, but would there be enough pressure to at least make the attempt, or would it require a certain amount of pressure?
How long since your last oil change? If the oil gets too thinned out it can't build the pressure to fire the injectors. If the fuel bowl heater was shorted you would not get a wait to start light. Good luck....
