I am planning to that 390 that I have spoke of. I just got a new job too. I have thought of putting in a set of AL heads. I would like to keep my stook 4bb maniflod. I will have headers and a new cam /timming setup. I would like to keep the nonadjustable rockers.... maybe not. Or are the edlebrok heads adjustable.... what would I have to do... These heads seems to be very diff. Are the adjustible or not. Do they work well with the stoc setup... A guesss i would have lots of Q's. The plane is 750cfm 4bb/cam/new t-chain/waterpump/fuelpump/headers/ NEW CAB...
I have a set of the edelbrock 390 heads. The head doesn't dictate if the valvetrain is adjustable, the rocker setup does. If you use another cam you'll need to go to an adjustable setup to keep the valvetrain geometry correct. Comp Cams makes the rockers.
i was reading your question and you mentioned that you were runnin the stock intake, if you have the cash i'd go for an edelbrock intake to match...they arn't overly expensive, and they are very beneficial.....ruduce weight by 55lbs for one thing and your heads wont truly work to potential if you run the factory.....
just some advise.
You can get over and undersized pushrods. It's just gonna take some time and patience to check the geometry of all the valves. If the valve stem heights are consistent you might be OK just checking one and then if you have clatter dealing with the noisy one(s).

PS> If you are spending big bucks on Edelbrock aluminum heads, it seems silly not to get the aluminum intake that goes with it.
