Bad Powersteering box....Leaking

Which is easier, or better to do:
Get the $8 seal replacement kit, take the box off, replace the seals, etc OR
Swap the NEW steering box off my 1991 crown victoria (5.8L)....Will they swap easily or would there be much work, btw the vic steering box has 3 bolts....

Thanks all-

-Wes

Are you talking about the truck in your sig? If so, I couldn't say for sure if the steering box off your vic will be a straight swap with your 94.

However, I can say that replacing the seal isn't that difficult to do. Some guys on here say they've done it without having to remove the box from the truck. I wasn't so lucky- I had to drop mine, but once it was out it took all of 5 minutes to replace the seal. But my truck is a 91 F150.

If you end up replacing the seal, one piece of advice I can give you is that when you go to add fluid back to it, hook up the return line first, then add fluid to the box thru the inlet line bore. Fill it up, hook up the inlet line, then fill the pump reservoir. I had problems bleeding the system when I tried just adding fluid thru the pump. I ended up unhooking the inlet line at the box and could see air bleeding out. Once it stopped I hooked the line back up, bled the system again and it's worked great ever since. The fresh fluid also made the pump whining stop.

If you're very hard on your truck, I'd strongly consider upgrading to a higher quality box... the power steering system on these trucks may just be the weakest link in the whole setup... I've replaced pumps and boxes time after time on F-Series and Broncos from this time period, and its just not worth it... I prefer to upgrade...
