Hey guys, I got my 95 powerstroke a couple weeks ago. I'm looking to put some gauges, an exhaust, a chip and some day down the road some injectors. Since most of you guys already have done these things, what are some things I should look into and maybe some things I should stay away from? Thanks, James
Ya, I definitely want to get a 3" dp and 4" straight exhaust. Any suggestions on where to get a good deal for those? Also, the truck has a k&n air filter on it, should I still switch out for a 6637? and where would be a good place to start for that? I'm very budget minded so any info on where to get good product for a good price would be appreciated. Also, whats a good chip, I've heard many things from edge to TS. What do you guys think?
I got lucky on my exhaust, bought the whole thing together used. Get rid of the K&N and the stock air filter box, they leak. Get the 6637 (I think that's a NAPA number) but the next one I buy will be from rifraft, I think I spelled that wrong. I use the TS chip, for the money its amazing performance. These motors out of the factory are dead compared to what they can be. One mod at a time and you will see!!
STAY AWAY FROM EDGE! Unless you want to regularly repair things that arent brok on your truck. Edge for these trucks cause lots of computer issues and will make you think that something that isnt broken is, and then will do it over and over again. Then youll still have to get the computer reflashed by the dealer as the program will not come completely out of the computer. If you want a chip TS is decent but most common preferences aronud here are PHP(power hungry performance), Tony Wild, and DP Tuner. For the money they are hands down the best options are they custom tuned for your truck.
hey thanks guys, I will look into the 6637 at riffraff. And i will heed the warning to stay away from edge. I don't want to be fixing things that i don't have to. The mech over at Dynomite diesel told me the orange intake tubes that connect to the turbo are famous for cracking and collapsing on themselves. Is there a kit that will sell the 6637 filter and the intake tubes all the way to the turbo?

not many. just pull your orange tube and check it for cracking. if its cracked you can run down to ford and get the upgraded one for your truck. they basically swap it over to the super duty type tube that is black and gets rid of the aluminum piece that has the ccv for a plastic ccv piece. if your going to mess with all that you might as well do the CCV mod while your at it as well.
i use a Tony Wildman chip and i love it. currently its not burned for my stage 2's(still tuned for my old stage 1's), but it still runs awesome. i have heard great things about PHP(power hungry performance) as well though and from talking to Bill a little bit i would be willing to bet his tunes are great. i like my chip b/c its a little more aggressive than i have heard from some of Bills customers, but i'm sure Bill can get aggressive with his tunes as well. lots of choices for tuning though so check out all of them. you have Tony Wildman(Total Diesel Performance), PHP, DP-Tuner, Swamps Diesel, Beans Diesel Performance, Matt @ Gearhead.... i have heard that Matts tunes aren't quite all the way there yet for the OBS yet, but i'm sure with a little work his will work great as well if they don't work so hot on the first shot.
for your 6637 filter go to Clay @ Riff Raff fo sho!!! also check him out for your guages as well. you probably know what you need.
your truck a standard or auto tranny??? if its an auto your going to need to do some mods to it as well.
ya my truck is an auto, it was replaced about 60,000 ago.
you will need to upgrade the tranny cooler and make sure you get the tranny cooler guage as well when you get your boost and pyro guages. you also want to look into a good shift kit and some of the other auto tranny mods. i'm not an auto tranny fan myself so i don't keep up with what the guys are doing to them to get them to stay happy, but i know that you need to do the tranny cooler and a shift kit. maybe a BTS valve body. LoL.
ya I was lookin for a 5 speed but couldn't find one. I am definately going to look into a tranny cooler and possibly a shift kit. Thanks for the info, by the way, very nice truck.

thanks. if you hang around here too long you will have a pic similar to that in your sig. haha. and you will be broke like the rest of us too b/c we like to spend each others money. LoL
I have an auto and am doing a bunch of mods right now too. I'm doing stage ones, php, intercooler, etc. I was told by some guys here to go with the transgo tugger kit at least. That is what i'm doing. It's 148.00 so not too bad. I am also installing the tru cool tranny cooler now.

you can get those parts from racerx right? where did you get yours? i'm pretty sure racerx has the transgo and trucool 30k or whatever those huge tranny coolers are.
