Hey guys, I have a question for you regarding cold starts on my 6.0. When I start my truck for the first time in the morning it will idle rough for approx 10-15 sec but after this it will begin to idle fairly normally with maybe a little hint of rough idle as it auto idles up. There is no smoke or any other issues as far a driving. The other thing is that it does not do this every time and will never do it if i plug it in. My question is if there are no other issues and it works itself out after a few sec is this a problem if so what could it be. My truck is a 2005 350 dually with 107,000 miles. The only mods are lift kit and 5" pipe. BTW other then a sensor of some sort getting gummed up a few years ago the truck has had no issues other then only the defrosters work now lol. thanks in advance for the tips.
How cold is it outside? What kind of oil are you using, 5-40 syn? (works better in cold temps) When was the last time your truck was flashed? There have been several new flashes just in the last year to help with cold start issues.
Seems like some good advice huh, Cowboy? Can anyone tell I'm bored? LOL I'm off this week and all the chores are done for today. Time for some college football!
Don't you hate it when your composing a response and someone else beats you to the punch. I guess my New Year's resolution should be to learn how to type faster.
I don't think I'll ever be able to say that all of the chores are done. My list is exhausting long and two new items get added for every one I mark off.
Yeah, Steve Bricks just did it to me last week, or earlier this week. Its all good. What I should have said was all the chores that are going to get done today are done, lol! Theres more, but it can wait until tomorrow. That includes where that little puddle of coolant I just found under my truck an hour ago is coming from. None under the blue egr hose in the valley...looks like its coming from the back of the head above the starter. But I don't want to hijack this thread more than I already have-sorry 2005Dually!
thanks for the responses guys. To answer some questions it only gets to about 40 at night so not too cold. And I am using rotella t dino. I havent had it in the dealer for any flashes or anything like that in a long time so maybe this is whats going on because i don't remember my truck doing this at these warm of temps. I have read a little about the inductive heating flash is this the flash you guys are talking about? If so are there any negative side effects such as power loss or anything? And for my final question how much does it cost to get it done, is it simple in and out or does it have to go to an engineer who has to take it to the CIA who then gives it to NASA who passes it to Al Gore who will either give the whole thing a thumbs up or down and if it becomes the later (thumbs down) a man wearing all black with aviator sunglasses on shows up at the dealership and proceeds to fire 3 rounds into my engine block with his hand cannon. lol, I too am off work this week and am bored to tears as you can see by my unnecessarily long story.
Brother thats the funniest thing I've read in quite some time! As for your questions: 5-40 Rotella syn at Wallyworld, I just paid $19.50/gal x4, try it. If you don't like it you can always go back to 15-40. Remember, proper filters also. As for the flash, https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/9...-for-6-0s.html the latest and greatest. Power loss, too soon to tell but so far she seems the same. Cost should be 1 hr labor, or around $100. Just call your friendly local neighborhood Ford dealer and schedule an appt. Thanks for the laugh!
My pleasure for the laugh D8. When I change the fuel and oil filters I use motorcraft always, and they are always changed on time or a bit before. Ill consider the syn oil next time im due for a changin. As for the flash ill get that bad boy done, just dont tell al gore, lmao. Thanks for the advice.
Right, we'll keep that between you and me. As far as the oil, a recent Ford documentary ( for lack of a better term) posted by Bismic shows that Ford recognizes 5-40 syn as an acceptable oil to use between -20 deg and 100 deg F. Good luck, see ya round here
