I have a 2000 Expy EB 4WD. When I make a real sharp turn, it feelis like the tire is about to fall off. It drives smooth, no other issues. Is it something I can check to see if it's a problem?
How many miles on it? Ball joints definately go on these trucks. Replaced mine after about 120K. I could not feel much play in them by jacking the truck up and trying to see if there was slop when I tried to move the tires up and down and left and right, but after I changed them I was surpirsed how much of a difference it made in the steering and handling. Did uppers and lowers. Was not that bad if you are moderately experienced.
My Expy has 126k. It drives smooth. When I turn sharp to the left, it feel like the tire is going to fall. If I turn to the right, it doesn't do it at all.
if you want to check the ball joints, you need to take the weight off them. jack it up and put jack stands under each of the front suspension, not the frame, or the wheels, so that when you set it down the ball joints react as if the truck was on the ground. then try rocking the wheels. if they rock they are bad. sometimes when setting down on the jackstands you will actually see them pop out of their sockets a bit.
