not starting (sensors?)
ok....before I go crazy and start replacing things I dont need to. I have a 99 expy 5.4 . some mornings it would not start, not even sputter to try. try it later in the day and it would start right up. but....I had noticed after I removed & replaced the the air cleaner tube she would start. next time it did not start, I bumped the air cleaner tube with my fist a few times, and it would start right up cold. cleaned the MAF sensor,(with MAF cleaner) still the same thing. once the truck had started she runs like a dream. also if I would lightly tap the other sensor in the tube which seems to be a air temp sensor she would start right up. now, none of that works. any idea if it still is the MAF, just finally gone totally bad, or the air charge temp sensor in the tube. I know the MAF is about $150 so I would like some other opinions if I could get them. I did have some trouble with the truck "stumbling" at take off sometimes which has me leaning toward the MAF

Sounds more like a sticky IAC valve and your hitting the air tube was coincidental. If your MAF were faulty, you'd have a CEL with appropriate fault code.
Next time it fails to start, crack the throttle 1/4 way and try again. If it now starts, replace the IAC valve.
