Need some info on a tranny swap, I have a 64 f-100 with a 223 inline six and I would like to take out the four speed and install a automatic. I need to know what transmission will work and if there is one that will bolt up or if there is a adapter that will make a c-4 or a c-6 work. This is my first restoration so any information will be a great help.
the problem here is the 223 is an older generation engine; 58 to 64. the C6 came out in 66, so the bolt batterns are different. the C4 came out in 64, so it may be possible that a C4 came behind a 223 in a '64 Galaxie with a 223, but that would be about the only combination that i can think of that would give you any chance of finding one. Welcome to the fun of junk yard hunting and good luck. God bless.

I'm not sure on the C4 suggestion, but it's certainly worth exploring. Perhaps that's why Ford went with a detachable bell since they knew they would be "shifting gears" with the I6 redesign.
If you are looking to maintain stock integrity, I would think you can find a Ford-O-Matic out there. That tranny was an option for trucks with a 223/262.
