horrible axle wrap?

so when i am playing in about 5 or more inches of snow and i try to take off my truck starts to shutter/bucks like a sob. would this be axle wrap? its worse from the rear but some times i get it from the front also. i was thinking that i would just need traction bars but i was reading that my springs just might be wore out. so my questions are
1. should i get new springs bofore tractions bars?
2. what are the best/ cheapest springs i could get?
3. what kind of traction bars should i get?

thanks in advance

On slick surfaces, and with these trucks, I seriously doubt it is axel wrap. It is more than likely bounce. I would look first at shocks. Their job is to stop the "bouncing" by dampening as the axel moves up and down. Standard shocks are good for regular road but if you want high performance shocks, you could be looking at at a shock with an oil reservoir system.

Your rear springs are going to be more the culprit than the fronts so look at the arch in your rear springs. Are they flat? Bowed upside down? If so, replace them. They will run about $500 from a spring shop or less if you get yours re-arched. But I would look at shocks first.

Ditto what BB69 said. Also check all the bushings back there. An alternative to traction bars are traction shocks if you are inclined to lean that way. Just remember that unless you get highend track bars most of the cheaper ones limit axle articulation.

The problem is, axle wrap can cause wheel hop, and vice-versa.

It's an inherent problem with rear leaf spring type vehicles. It's a problem that really plagues Lightning owners at the track. Guys have twisted and busted their drive shaft from axle wrap, without having any wheel hop.

Like the guys already said though, springs and shocks should be addressed first before you start looking at traction bars.

I have a set of Competition Engineering Slide-A-Links on my Lightning and I WISH they made a set for my F250 2-wheel drive truck, but they don't. When I finally have some money, I'll probably have a friend of a fellow FTE member make me a set of custom, Rancho type long bars for my truck.
