Cracked Front Cover, How Common?
I have a 2001 model year T444E apart now with a cracked front cover, it was cracked in the oil pump area from about the 1:00 position to the 3:00 position. Symptoms were dying or faltering after starting with warm oil, if it died it we would have to manually fill the HPOP resevoir to get it to go.
It appears to me this crack was generated from flexing caused by the expansion or contraction of the oil cooler as the crack is across the passage leading to the cooler.
Ever seen it? How common? Are certain years more prone?
