The Black Sheep
But for those that don't tow but prefer to use the Ex for it's other intended purpose, offroading, I can unequivocally say that these beasts handle just fine without front or rear sway bars or even a track bar. I know, some of you are probably thinking...'What! Is he crazy... not using the track bar??
I removed the front sway bar earlier this year when i installed the W code springs. I honestly didn't notice any difference in the way the truck handled. I was still able to do fairly quick lane changes at highway speeds without feeling unsafe. Naturally, off road, not having those low hanging links dragging and having the better articulation was a bonus.
Today, I installed the new West Texas steering box and removed the track bar to make the install easier. As I'm going to be raising the truck up another 4" in the next couple of weeks, and cannot get an adjustable one to suit the lift in time, I decided to leave it off and cautiously see what the driving would be like. Well, with the new box removing all play from my steering wheel, I was able to hold whatever line I chose without correction...what a wonderful feeling that was! Next, I took the truck through some progressively more difficult maneuvers to see if I could upset the suspension.... never happened.
Possibly the stiffer W codes, along with the Bilsteins, the new steering box and the E rated 35's have all added up to stiffen the front suspension enough that it feels worlds better than when I first got the truck. The over built shackles I'm putting on will also help to prevent any side motion.
All I can say is WOW.... for a 9500lb trucks with no stability controls, this thing is awesome.
Don't be afraid to break away from the flock.....
