Electrical mess cont'd
Hey thanks for the info on the 203, and I just replaced the voltage regulator and all the wires going to and from the alternator and the dumb thing still will not charge. I am really stumped now. I think I am going to get the alt' checked again somewhere else. Any advice will be greatly appreciated.

If you are having this much trouble getting it going, get a one-wire alternator from Summit Racing. Only have to connect it to the battery to make it work.

I put in a GM style one wire alternator made by Powermaster (I think). I have since seen advertised in Mustang Mags a one wire alternator specifically for Fords. Gee my wiring is simpler. The Gm style required that the mounting pivot hole (the bolt into the head) be drilled out from the GM 3/8 size to 7/16. I was told I might have to grind some on my adjustment bracket. I didn't have to. The depth of the alternator is tight. The back of the alternator rests on the head of my 390. I also shimmed out the adjustment bracket from the waterpump with 4-5 washers. I did have to salvage one other wire from the alternator/regulator harness. The big power wire from the body harness needs to be connected to the positive connection of the solenoid. Then the one wire from the alternator to the positive battery cable. I'm happy with the results.
