I've read the threads about PIE adapters and such but have seen nothing about mounting and installation options for a 2005. So here goes ...
First the specs: 2005 F350, 6.0, manual trans, stock CD radio with aux button but no 6-changer.
For Christmas I was given a Sirius receiver - the kind that looks like a removable faceplate. The receiver has all sorts of wires to plug in to it externally which makes it portable but it looks like hell.
I can get over the looking like hell part - my truck is not a grocery getter - but I don't want to make it any easier for the bad guys to rip my stuff off.
Greetings....I have the 08 F450 and used an adapter to interface my IPod and a line in to the in-dash nav system. I use the line in for my XM receiver....works great. I have used these adapters in the past for other vehicles and have never had issues with them. The hardest part is ripping apart the dash and finding a place to mount the adapter. If you do it correctly, people will never know you have an interface installed. One bit of advice....some of the components you might want to interface may have a small amount of audio out thus there could be some volume differences between the component and the volume of the radio on FM, CD, etc. One way to correct this is to add a line level driver to increase the volume from the component. BTW....I mounted my XM receiver to the left of the steering wheel with all the wires concealed within the dash. It looks great and I can remove it anytime I want. I used the mount that ships with the XM roady auto kit. There are other mounts out there you can purchase....Panavise is one...I have used them in several vehicles....here's their web site.... http://www.panaviseonline.com/. Their brackets are top notch, look great and are designed for the specific model/year vehicle.
Yes, you need a PIE adaptor, which allows a direct RCA connection from your sat radio through to aux on your stereo. Its not hard, I have one for my iPod, which allows both, when I get one. Mounting it is the problem, i suggest to the dash in the middle somewhere easily reached. there are windshield brackets if that works for you. The sound is way better using the adapter than FM transmission.
P.I.E. Adapter is what you need. Very easy install with the right tools. I haven't done it yet but have had my dash out to install the SIRIUS radio in my truck. The dash is very easy to remove if you're patient. Here's a great write up with pics that's also in the SD Tech Folder in the Electronics section:
