I have recent problem with my 76 460ci. In the last week the battery will not hold a charge. I ignition module that is mounted on the drivers side inner fender wall has started to make a clicking noise about every minute or so when the motor is turned off. Could this part be defective I think it has never been replaced. Thanks Glenn
That clicking noise could likely be the solenoid engaging for whatever reason, does the starter kick when this happens? Those solenoids only cost like 10 bucks so I'd just replace it for the hell of it since its original. Maybe you'll get lucky.
Maybe your battery is just old and needs replacing because it can't hold a charge? Or maybe an alternator issue? I just replaced the battery in my truck after about 14 years of service...yikes! Or it could be because cold weather killed your battery? Good luck.
The ignition modules are solid-state devices - they have nothing in them that would "click" - However, an electrical discharge can create a clicking noise. I would pull the module off the fender and check the backside for pinholes or any other sign of damage - it could be that something in the module is discharging to ground (the fender) and that it might be time to replace it...
Hello...thanks
I will try and new battery as the current one is an old one that I had and it has been really cold here in Edmonton, I will replace the module as it is old. Up until recently the truck has seen very very little use. The alternator is new. The only other thing that sucks is the big beast will not fit in my garage, and I will have to do work in the cold.
Thanks Glenn
