rear interchange

Does anyone know if a later F100 rear will be a direct replacement for a 72 F100. My old one is shot and am having trouble finding a replacement

Jim its your lucky day, the 9in. Ford rear gear is one of the most popular items in the world. Find what gear ratio that you have or want to change to and about $75 - 100.00 should get you on your way with 3 Qt. of gear oil, and a new gasket and a couple of hours to change it out.

Good Luck

There is a difference between the 9" in 72 and in 80up (2wd only)
the older ones have a 28 spline and the newer have a 31 spline.....or 30...something like that.

If you want to change out the entire rear axle all you'll have to do is move the pads inboard about 2" each so the new axle bolts up to your springs.
