I don't want to use the steel zigzag line cooler for the power steering system I installed on my 66 F-100. The zigzag line would interfere with my AC installation and the radiator. The radiator has been moved back 2" to put it closer to the fan. At pep Boys I saw a remote oil filter installation with clamps, hoses and a nice aluminum mounting bracket. I am thinking about using this setup as both a cooler and a filter. I could add one of those slip on finned aluminum oil filter element coolers for added cooling and the filter would add a little extra capacity to the system. Ideas? Opinions?
I found a small FOMOCO cooler attached to the PS pump on a 70s? or so vintage pickup truck. This truck had the powersteering pump that lined up with the correct vibration damper and PS pump mount bracket for my FE. The cooler bolts to the PS mount bracket, It's about 5 inches high and is shaped like an inverted "U". This cooler is perfect for almost any application and it is definatley a Ford part. Sorry I can't raise a part number.

I have a tranny cooler off of a `70s pinto, its real small about 5 inches, and does a good job. I could look and see if it has a number if you want it.
I just finished putting power steering in my '65 F-100. I didn't realize it at the time, but the set up that I got a hold of had a cooler attached like the one mentioned above. It is mounted to the p/s pump bracket and is a U shape, about 2 inches high. The bracket and components came off of a 1972 f-250 with a 390 cid engine. Good luck in your search for a cooler. I know that I am having a blast fixing my 65 up.
I think that the remote filter is a really good idea, for the cooler, check P.A.W. or Summitracing for a small (5"x11")power steering cooler, they go for about 20 bucks with hoses and mounting hardware. This should mate right up with the remote filter. Good luck, Chuck P.
Thanks for the advice and recommendations. The setup I finally used is the same as "65effie" is using. This is one of the neatest and most compact coolers I have seen. And I almost threw it away. I think if I was running over size tires I'd add the filter/cooler I discussed earlier in this thread. For now I'll leave it alone.
