Stainless steel on a 79' F150 Lariat

I was wondering if anyone could give me some good tips on how to get some pits and scratches out of the stainless steel on my truck. Since it is a Lariat, there is more stainless steel on it. The truck is black and silver. On the lower half of the truck there is a stainless steel trim, with black in the middle of it, which runs from the front of the truck to the back....the black is starting to flake and chip away. I need some help on how to make the stainless stell look good and repaint the black inside of it.

Thanks a ton!

Is this trim stainless steel? I thought it was aluminum.

Ford didn't offer SS would be a good guess.

OK guys I found out...it is aluminum...I looked it up in some manuals and and the books refer to it as the molding...but it goes further and talks about chrome and aluminum. I know the molding is not chrome so the guy who told me it was stainless steel didn't have a clue.

Anyway..I need some info if any one has any on how to get some minor scratches and a few chips from the lower molding of the chrome...all help is appreciated....thanks!
