I forgot to mention, there are holes rubbed into the tranny case from the flywheel rubbing! I will take pix tomorrow, this really sucks, I got it for a good price but I wasn't expecting all these problems
that's always a shame to see a dishonest person selling something like this.
im sure you feel sick about it.makes ya wish you could go back and demand $ for a new E40D.of course your on your own now.
thats a very **** poor thing to do to someone right there.
some people dont have a conscience, and, or, dont care if they're going up or down when its over lol.
I think I would first determine what tranny it came from the factory with before I started looking for one,as I belive you could get a C6 or a E40D in 91.
Does your shift selector have the o on it, if it came with a C6 it will not have the ecm for the E40D. It sounds like you have a can of worms on your hand, run a vin check and see what it started out as it may not even been diesel originally. I can't imagine why someone would have removed the filter for it. Can you post pictures of the engine.
Have you had it running at all.

the shifter does not have the other drive, I have a 87 E250 with a 302 and the shifter does have the other drive, so does this imply it came with a C6?
I have not had it running yet, I am planning on working on it all weekend, I put the right filter in there and hooked up the fuel lines as I thought was right, I am just not sure how the return and bypass lines need to be.
I was looking at a couple pix of a C6, it looks like there is one bolt at the top, is this true for all C6's?
if so the origonal tranny was a E4OD, I just have the wrong one.
I'm not up on auto's at all but I think all the overdrives had the o on the shift selector.
Some fords had an overdrive lockout button on the dash, not shure what models had this though.
If it didn't come with an overdrive the C6 is what it would have had, but you have to get one from a diesel no gasser tranny will bolt up.
Ok not sure how to tell then maybe number dummy will chime in.
The diesel C6 and the E40D have the same bolt pattern no ford that I know of has a single bolt on the top, Chevy did this on manual 3 speeds for a couple years made for some funny stories.

thanks for that, it clears it up, now if I can just figure out if its a C6 or E4OD I can start the search...
Did the vin decoder say that it started life as a diesel.
You need to start a new thread to find out how tell if it had a C6 or E40D I'm sure the wiring will be different so you should be able to tell by the wiring harness on the van, but like I said I know nearly nothing about autos. Start a thread on autos, there is some guys on here that will know what to look for.
