I believe it does, not sure to what extent, may just read if the wheels are turning or not.
Are you sure your van doesn't have limited slip, I can't see these newer vans being supplied with an open axle?

I have an02 V10 E350 and it came with the semi-float standard 3.73 axle like yours. semi-float means the axle is the outer differential bearing carrier, all the weight is on the axle. I bought a complete 4.10 full float from a 1999-2000 with disc brakes and bolted it straight in, and with the 4R100 transmission it works great. 1-2 miles per gallon less empty, but better mileage towing 8-9. I finally bought two of them, they can be hard to find because it must be Econoline Dana 60 with disc brakes. I had one wrecking yard that received four rear ends that were supposed to be the right ones and they weren't. After months of haggling finally they found the real deal and I am pleased. The first one was $700 and the second one $1000. I had no ideal how many miles on them but got four years of towing 9,500 lbs out of the first one and pulled it down. The only bearings that were bad were the carrier bearings, all the rest were good. The second one was quiet and I pulled it down this fall after my big trip up north because I could feel some rumbling back there and sure enough the only bad bearing was one of the carrier bearings. Everything else was fine.
Its a great swap, more power and not overloaded. You can put 4.10 gears in your housing but it will cost you and those semi-floats are not the greatest for longevity.
You can even put 4.30 in a dana 60 from what I have learned, but they might be thin gears as someone mentioned earlier, I don't know.
I have found it a great swap and happy hunting. You can get some junk shipped to your favorite junk yard, make sure you have a 30 day replacement warranty, and give them a bunch of measurements to help them. The dually rear end is close but will not work in the single rear wheel van.

I forgot to mention that the limited slip diff is almost useless. If you have enough friction modifier in it to be quiet it won't work and if you have it grumble when you turn it might work. I have been in some situations with both of my LS diffs and they always spun one wheel. Tried using the brake to get it working and still no real joy. I think they are overrated.

I use synthetic Royal Purple, requires NO modifier as it's designed for LS, lockers, and posi units. No issues with my limited slip other than the rear coming around on me on occasions when I get on it too much, my 5.4 15 passenger will smoke the tires with 3.50 gears. I have a full floater, was under the impression only the E250 received a semi float axle, they suck, pretty much kill the reason for buying a heavy duty vehicle, especially a van, being the rear is heavy even when unloaded.
I was considering a dually from a cut away, not certain if they have the required VSS sensor in them, yet they have 4.68 gears, definitely a bad choice for daily commuting.
I thought the V-10 got the 5 speed auto, it has a lower first gear, making taller gears in the rear a good choice, and still retaining pulling power? I'd love one of those for mine, yet the ECM upgrade and added wiring harness work would be quite costly, not enough to offset the project.
