On my 08 F350 dually the hitch seems to have been upgraded to a higher rated hitch by welding a sleeve on it. I am not sure if is factory or not. The problem I have is that the holes do not line up perfectly and getting a hitch in is a bitch. I am wondering if ford did this or would it be aftermarket. And if it is a Ford hitch I will probably have the dealer fix it.
Sounds like you got the heavier hitch that is only available on the dually. It should have a 2.5" square receiver, and also a sleeve that slips in so you can use the more common 2" square draw bars.
Yes, if the hole isn't right, your dealer should take care of it under warranty. But make sure it's not just a problem with how the sleeve is installed.

A picture or two would be nice.
This is the way my dually is, let the dealer fix it or replace it. I have no problem getting the insert and the draw bar to line up.
MxDad567, your saying that the sleeve (insert) is welded inside the hitch receiver and can't be taken out? Or is the insert just mis drilled and the holes won't line up. Either way take it to the stealership. I would think it's covered by warrany.
There really is no top/bottom it works either way, and sliding it in fits only one way because of the length and the hole for the pin. (Reading this post out of context doesn't sound like what I'm describing for a trailer hitch)
I would take it in under warranty. They may have to replace the entire unit. Just don't let them put the 12.5K one on it when you bought the bigger one.
