Heater Core Time

AutoZone.com | | Heater Core | HEATER CORE

This what I need? The one with A/C, I assume. (I have the A/C option). Should I pick any of the other ones? Thanks, I know it's a pretty easy job, just want to get the best one for the right price.

Just take your old one out and compare the two. If you have an OEM one...it's probably a higher quality part and you could take it to a local radiator shop to have them dip it and make sure there are no leaks for about the same price as buying a new one.

heater core time

just match up your options with the selections available on your parts stores web page. You could also go to the smaller auto parts store that even though they have less advertising dollar may have more knowledgeable staff, also take out the current core and take it for comparission. Help keep the little guy alive.

Well, I ended up buying it last night. It took me about 1.5 hours all together. Taking it out, putting new one in, getting it warmed up, making sure all the air was out, etc.

All in friggin' 24F degree weather. I should start wording it like you Canadians, it makes it sound colder... -5C.

Either I'm tough, or I'll be telling you guys about my pneumonia from a hospital. The truck is great, though :-)

did you do anything special to make sure the air was out of the core or just filled the lower tube first then filled from a higher point?

I left the cap off the radiator and let it run for 20 - 30 minutes, mainly I let it run while I put the box back around the heater core. After it was hot and all the air bubbles were out/cycled through, I topped it off with some anti-freeze. Probably almost a quart's worth. I didn't fill the core or anything prior to installation. I've drove it quite a bit since then and the temp gauge acts exactly like before.
