GM Solid State Conversion-Good Idea or no?

I keep hearing how the GM solid state relay system is better than the 87-93 Ford solid state glow plug system is. Is this bs or not. Havent really heard it from very credible sources that's why I ask.

Converting the Ford system to a manual button is the best in my opinion.

I don't think it's better than the Ford setup, we tried it on my buddy's '86 six-niner and we still fried the plugs. Manual button is good, but in my truck I have both - the factory solid-state setup (with upgraded power feed cable), but also a manual glow switch - which comes really handy right now as I've lost a few plugs but I can still start it on the remaining ones at 20F after sitting all night.
