Well, after a few years without one, I finally got another dentside. I've been looking for quite a while for a couple of them. I've been trying to find a 1/2 ton long bed for my oldest son (16) and I to work on as a project truck. We are planning to build daily driver/work truck out of it. He wants a flatbed, manual trans, 4x4 so he can work with it after school and that type of thing. I wanted him to find a 3/4 or 1 ton but he really likes the 1/2 ton coil setup so thats what we got. Anyhow, what we ended up getting was a 78 1/2 ton, std cab, long box 4 wheel with the 351M and 4 speed. The truck was someones project truck so we have some work ahead of us but it does run very well. The grille shell and headlight assemblies are gone as well as the bed but the rest of the truck is perfect. The frame was coated with rust inhibitor, the cab and rest of the body was also epoxy primed after the body work was done. Truck has 4 inch lift, headers, edelbrock intake/carb, msd ignition, new clutch and lockers.
The great thing about the deal was that we got a 79 1/2 ton, std cab, short box 4 wheel for free with it, minus title,. The truck is complete, trim and all and everything works. (air, tilt, cruise) The body is pretty good but not great. No dents just some typical rust on the wheel wells and bottom of the doors. This one is the 351 with a c-6. We are going to part this truck out if anyone is interested. I will be keeping the core support and grille shell but the rest is going to get sold. I will post some pictures as soon as I get the trucks inside my shop. (too much snow right now to get good pics)
Oh ya... we DROVE both of them home, in 4wd, for $200 with a plow to boot!!!
The next one will be a Super Cab or Crew cab 3/4 or 1 ton 4x4. Can't wait to find that one!!!
sounds like a good project. An I know were a crew cab is for bout $2,800 4wd its a 78 or 79. The guy I got mine off of had it sitting it is in Stamford VT his email address is gibsontractor@aol.com. He still might have it for sale. I got the 74 2wd crew cab instead for $1,000 I did not want all the emission stuff the other one had on it.
Don't blame you there. The CC or SC will have to wait a little while unless I find another screaming deal. I don't care too much as to running condition with that one due to the fact that it will be getting a complete cummins with trans and axles from a donor dodge that I have found. I really want an old Ford with a swapped cummins, 6 speed, air, tilt, cruise, etc. I don't like the way newer trucks are built but I do like the cummins and the driveline that come with it. It will be a very LONG and tedious project when it happens. (Getting the AC, cruise and other options to work and look right) For now. This project is going to be a good time. We can't wait to get them in the shop and get going on it. We currently have everything for the build minus the fuel transfer tank that we are going to install. Great way to spend father/son time.
