Trying to start a new project...need some help
Hey everyone...havent been on in a long time. Sold my old 79 F250 4 years back, and traded my 2000 F250 7.3 4x4 for a 2008 F350 6.4L Powerstroke 4x4dually which I'm in love with!!
I need a 3/4 ton donor truck for engine & drivetrain. I have my eyes set on a 90s F250. From what I can find: they came with 7.3 diesel. Was this mated to a ZF five speed? Did this year come with solid front axle? If so which one?
Basically Im looking for a 7.3 turbo or non-turbo, manual transmission, transfer case doesnt really matter (though I would like to know what these trucks used) and solid front axle. I know that from 97 and newer they are solid axles but they will cost too much for a donor truck. Holw old can i go and get all the things im asking for. Any additional info would be great. Glad to be back with a new project.

Yup, to get a solid front axle in a truck older than a 97, you will be looking for an F350. Otherwise heres the breakdown for diesel/manual options:
82-87 6.9L N/A, 4 speed, T-19 normally
88-92 7.3L N/A ZF S5-42 5 speed, some 88s may have come with the 4 speed still
93-94 7.3L Turbo ZFS5-42
94-97 7.3L "powerstroke" came with ZF S5-47, newer trans w/ some minor upgrades, no stronger than the S5-42
