That is not good..... thank you for posting that Two weeks ago or so I posted about my block heater cord arcing out under my truck and burning off when this happened it looked like a transformer on a hydro pole arcing out I could see how it would catch the motor on fire especially if there is an oil leak near by.
By the way I plug into a GFI receptacle and it did not trip figure that one out
gfi work by detecting a difference between the hot wire and the neutral wire so unless there is a direct short the gfi won't trip if you would have thrown some water on it then it would have probably tripped out the gfi... i'm a electrician and have never seen a gfi that was bad that would still work and not trip all the ones i have ever seen just won't reset if bad
A GFI's only job is to sense currents to ground.
Its a imbalance of the hot and neutral.
It does nothing to protect from shorts, over currents ect
of a ac circuit.
that sux, try to look at the bright side that it wasnt parked inside causing damage to the building or the obvious that no one was in it. Good luck with the claim and replacement truck.
This stuff with the fires is starting to get me nervous. You should see what my extension cord looks like. One of the plugs on it is all black and melted. Arced like hell when I plugged it in.
