Which ever ones you get, make sure you get some sort of coating on them. Our trucks seem to get the elements from all angles and then the header looks like crap after a few months of driving.

I've had the same set of Heddmans on my California '77, 4x4, 400 since 1995. Not a single issue yet.

Subscribing. I had chassis exit Hedman headers on my 400 and really didn't have a problem except they turned rusty. Then with the engine change, I went for the fenderwell headers from L & L.

I like these better than chassis exit because its easier for side exit exhaust.

[QUOTE=Blackfoot Big Block;8288289]Riderman,

I don't know how long Hedman has been producing their "Elite" line. The Hedmans I bought, as I previously mentioned, were cheap and poor quality.

AWW, an airforce jockey...Hotel Warriors.....JUST KIDDING...Thank you for your service!

I know what you mean. I was just checking, Hedman does make a "cost effective" painted header. They are about half the price of the Elites. I dont know that the Elites will last longer, but with the 3/8" flange and 14 guage tubes, I hope so. The soft aluminum gasket did not work for me with these headers. The header flange has a bead around each tube that bolts to the head. The $40.00 aluminum gaskets leaked like a sieve. I had to remove them and use the Hedman gaskets. JEGS refunded my money with no issues for the gasket. They said they would refund my money for the headers if I wasnt satisfied.

I wish they were ceramic coated. I refused to pay a third party company another $300.00 bucks to get them coated again.

I put a block of wood between the headers and the part of the truck that was the interference point and jacked up the rear of the transmission and in the process bending the headers so they would fit. I removed the block and installed the crossmember.
All jokes aside, this is not abnormal for aftermarket parts of even the best quality. Especially sheet metal type parts. You did what most of us do, "make em fit". Is it right? No. The cheaper in price/materials you go, typically the more fabrication work is required for a proper fit. This applies to most aftermarket parts. I'll ask you this...where are most aftermarket parts made?...

On one of my last dents, I bought a cheap (by price) set from Summit racing. I had them ceramic coated by a buddy and used Stage 8 bolts on them with Percy gaskets and never had a problem.

I've been reading about these...

4WD Truck Headers

Doug's headers now owned by Pertronix. I don't know if they have a set to fit your application, but they're tuned and they have ceramic coatings.
