I have always been more of a chevorlet guy, but while in search of a new project and something a little different I picked up a 1979 Ford F100 Custom. The truck is very clean inside and out and the 302 runs great. On the top of my to do list is to lower the truck by at least four inches in the front and five in the rear. Having no experience with ford vehicles, I set out on a journey of searching the internet for parts and ideas, however, never did I think it would be such a difficult task to find parts for this vehicle.
After some research it seems like the DJM 3 inch lowering I beams, with a 1 inch drop coil will be my best choice up front, but I am having a difficult time figuring out the best way to get the rear end as low as I would like. I know DJM makes a shackle/hangar kit which would put me at about four inches of drop, but I am look for a little more. I have read about the axle flip kits, but can not find a company that makes a kit to purchase. In the long run I will most likely air bag the truck or look for a kit to do a way with the twin I beams and maybe a four link out back, but for now I am looking for something to get it lower without heavly modifying anything.
If anyone can provide with me some information on where I can look for parts the help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!!!
Sounds like you got the front figured out. On the rear of my 68 F-100, I swapped the axle on top of the leaf springs. I think it gave me around a 5" drop.
I would post some pics, but the truck is still in pieces and under 3 feet of snow.
