snow plow

I have a 97 powerstroke and i want to put a plow on it. Im seeing how many of you guys are running with one on and if so what mods did you do to your trucks. I know the front end suck on these truck and i dont think putting all the add weight up there would be good for it Seeing what you all think.

If you are not doing a lot of plowing you will be fine, u- joints couple years then r and r..... I did alot of plowing with a F-250 ,7 -1/2 ft Meyer (Lite plow) I did u- joints every year and one year I did them twice, got real good at u-joint replacements my F-350 has a heavy Fisher plow and I am on my 5th season and still have the same joints.....

I had a 95 F250 i just sold, and ran an 8.5' Western Pro-plow on it for the last 5 winters. The suspension was stock, but i did put a set of Timbrens on it after my first time out, and didn't have any other trouble. Wasn't a big thing, it would occasionally bottom out on the bump stops when i was traveling between sites, and i didn't care much for that.

I just put a new 9'2" V plow on my 96 and haven't done a thing to it yet, it rides very well on the highway. I did install a Dana 60 last spring, and also put in a new set of springs, so they should be plenty sturdy. I've got a set of timbrens for that truck too, but won't install them until i see evidence that they're needed.

I beleave that they are like little air bas in the suspension to help with ride, and ride level.

I did find this

dougbrown has it. They are basically a hollow rubber cylinder, which is bolted in place of the factory bump stops. When the load is sufficient, they touch, compress and add to the load carrying capacity of the suspension. When you aren't carrying your plow, they don't cause your suspension to ride any worse than stock.

I like them as they are simple and basic, plug and play so to speak. An airbag kit is more complex with air lines that could be broken during plowing and leave you with only the stock suspension, which may not be enough.

If you're looking for a deal on them, check out equipmentspecialistsinc.com and shoot them an email or give a call. Ask for Jim or Noble, i bought my plow from them, and was very happy with the transaction. They don't advertise them, but they had a pretty large inventory of Timbrens they were selling for $60 a set shipped. Hard to say what they have left, but worth a shot.

I have a 7.5' Meyers and stock suspension. Just pu an add a leaf in teh froint after the last big storm. Rides ok but takes its toll on springs and u joints. I'm planning on putting air bags in the front and blowing them up stiff for plowing to limit spring wear

A 9' v-blade is way to big to be running on an f-250 if you as me. That is way to much weight to be hanging over the front end especially for a TTB. If you want to run a v-blade, which i do recommend if you plow anything commercially but if your only doing a driveway or two i wouldnt spend the extra money, then i would go with an 8.5' fisher. They are the best build light duty plow IMHO and if you buy one new then dont put a cutting edge on it right away, burn off about 2-2.5 inches of the cutting edge so that it will continue to trip correctly and so that you arent wasting cutting edges. And if you want to save even more weight go with an extreme-v stainless v-blade, it is increadably light compared to the mild steel version i would guess atleast 200 lbs but could be a bit more or less. We only run v-blades on our trucks and they are worth every penney if you do commercial lots.

Blizzard 810 run occasionally on my truck. I would recommend add a leafs from the front suspension and stay away from Big plows like the 810 or Boss 9'2". And 8 foot straight blade or lighter v plow would be fine. Also good tires and ballast weight in the bed (sandbags!)
