Alternator on the escape died.Holy crap how the hell do you get this thing out??Is there any tech files for tips and tricks to get this thing out.Iam guessing engine has to be jacked up.Any help would be great thanks.
The engine is 3.0v6,almost looks as if transaxle, right tire, weather shield need to be removed and maybe resenator??.They sure got that thing jammed in there.A blown fuse would cause the battery not to charge??The new battery wasn't getting charged when i checked with a meter. Please help with which fuses would cause this, thanks for the help fellows.
You should have power at the black with yellow wire at the voltage regulator. If not, check fuse 9 in the battery junction box. If you have power there, then you will need a scan tool with PID capability to monitor the charging system operation, as it is controlled by the PCM on this vehicle.
To remove the alternator:
Disconnect the battery.
Remove the RF wheel.
Remove the splash shields.
Remove the axle shaft.
Remove the belt.
Remove alternator electrical connections.
Remove air duct.
Remove alternator shield.
Remove alternator mounting nuts and bolts .
Remove alternator through wheel well.
Sometimes you don't have to remove the axle shaft, but it is much easier without it there. Also, some people remove the alternator shields with the alternator still in the vehicle, and some people remove the alternator then take the shields off.
Good luck with your alternator and I hope your replacement is a quality part. I went through 3 aftermarket alternators in 3 months before finally getting a good one.
