The only GM trucks that I like are the 1973-1991 Chevy pickups, Suburbans, and K-Blazers that competed against the full-size Bronco and precursed the Tahoe, in addition to the 1988-1999 GMT400 pickups, Suburbans, and 2-door Tahoe
The only engine I like in a GM truck are the Detroit Diesel 6.2 and 6.5 liter diesels
With regards to GM's medium duties; the 366 V8 was a piece of junk and was nothing except an enlarged version of the 265 and 283 Small Block V8s modified for use in their medium duties. The Detroit Diesel 8.2 Fuel Miser was also a piece of junk.
I think that the Medium Duty version of the F-Series, C-Series, and LN-Series held up better than the GM Medium Duties did; as also the International S-Series.
In the present; Isuzu's cabover medium duties also hold up better than GM's medium duties did, as also Mitsubishi's cabover medium duties, and Hino/Toyota's medium duties

So you like motors that crack the webs in the block? 6.2/6.5's were ok, but not for heavy use. My 6.9 outperformed the 6.5 we used to have that cracked the main web, which I have come to find is a common problem.
The 366 is not based on the small block you mention, rather a destroked 454. Practically the same block as a 454., but nothing of a 283 exists on that motor.
350's have proven performance, had one that ran 227,000 miles before I sold it, and the only issue it had was the normal valve seal leaks causing the smoke on startup. I had never so much as cracked a valve cover bolt loose on that one, and have had other well performing small blocks in the Chevy form as well. There is a reason they are used as much as they are, like it or not. Cheap, simple, and reliable if taken care of right. That is the same as any motor, take care of them right. Now if they were breaking cams and such, like the 3.4, you would have a case.
I liked GM trucks up until they changed body style in 99'. I like the LS based V8's, but think they need more bottom end grunt like the Fords. I also don't think the new GM trucks are a well built as the Fords, they seem to soft to me. My wife has an 06' 1500 w/ the 5.3L(she had to have it) good truck, but would never work it like I work my Ford. I use the Ford for work and the Chevy for the night on the town.

I agree
The the new GM trucks are not as well built as the Fords
I haven't owned a Chevy truck since 1987 but I have seen my dad's new truck - a 200? 2500HD (at least, I think that's what it is) with a Duramax diesel... He traded in a perfectly good Dodge truck that had a Cummins in it to get this Chevy and he's been regretting it ever since. The Dodge pulled his 5th-wheel so much better than the Chevy does (he described the Duramax as being practically gutless compared to that Cummins) and, the Chevy is so long, he has to practically touch the back wall of the garage with the bumper so there would be enough clearance for the garage door to close...
I used to drive auto transport out of the Port of Tacoma back around 1992-ish and I was not in the least bit impressed with what Chevy had to offer at that time...
I was recently told that GM is dropping GMC trucks and will be using the Chevrolet name on trucks from now on - anybody else hear this? I don't see why not - I can't tell any noticeable difference between the two lol...
poster beware!! here is an example of one of the OP's past threads https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/914285-nascar.html so,if you want to waste time with a response,go ahead, but time is indeed what you are wasting, your opinions are falling on deaf ears I am sure.
