is it going to affect anything if i unplug the ebpv? i understand that it must be there for a reason, is it just to try to get the truck to heat up quicker? and do i need to remove anything or just unplug the wire on the bottom of the turbo?
Just unplug it if that is what you want. It won't hurt anything. It is there for more rapid warm up in cold weather, helps defrosting the windows quicker. Just unplug the the connection and give it a try.
I actually plugged mine back in the winter because of the cold temps and was tired of freezing my *** off going to work.
aah, i like the cold so i guess ill just unplug it, i put mine on a timer for the block heater so it gets warm pretty quick. thanks for the quick response!

thanks im excited to be here, everyone ive talked to has been wicked cool, i know it must get old responding to the same newbie questions again and again so i appreciate the help. ive been messing with my truck since the summer and its been slow going on the information side of things, my boss is a duramax guy and he got me into putting in mods, i mean i wanted to but my mechanical aptitude isnt the highest so its been touch and go. he knows a lot about diesel trucks but very little about powerstrokes. all the other guys ive met in my area are running cummins, so there again i strike out. but hey everything comes to him who waits...

Just hang out here and ask .. no one on this site will give you any problems asking for help, or they will have to deal with other FTE members. Actually I've found some of the new people, like yourself bring up some really important / unknown issues!
hey, whats the deal with this fpr shim that everyone in the world but me knows about? i would assume its a fuel pressure regulator shim? how do you do that and is it a kit you need to buy or is it home-built?

hey jim thanks for the link that was a good one, so you did this yourself? did you use a 3/16 ball bearing? i mean a real one, not a bb. how were your fuel pressure numbers? one of the guys said 70 is perfect, and never more than 80 psi? is this what you understand about the whole deal, its a good link but id like some first person feed back before i do it.

Yes, I used (1) 3/16 ball bearing from ace hardware. Actually about 5 of them as they tend to slide around on the work bench and get lost. If you have any bb's then they work too. Measure your pressure first as you might not need it. And yes it increased my fuel pressure from 40 to about 60 PSI, but that was using a tire pressure gauge.
get a peice of wire to fish out the slider that is inside the FPR, its the big brass nut that you unscrew and tehre will be a spring in there, and any bb from a BB gun will work, drop it in the slider, put the srping in the slider so the bb doesnt fall out, then reinstall and start your rig and see how she runs!
I just did mine. really easy! just don't drop anything. I used a screw to fish out the plunger. Took maybe 5 minutes. I just put a new fuel pump on 3 months ago. Checked the pressure before the shim. It was close to 50. After about 75 with tire guage. hope I didn;t over do it. Only mod I can afford right now, besides the 140v mod. Still waiting on that to get the sealer for the box.
