Help on trailer lights...
That pin in the plug is only "hot" when the engine is running (when the alternator is able to charge the trailer battery), and your interior lighting is likely connected to that battery circuit.
Maybe the battery is dead?
Maybe the battery is not there at all?
Kinda' old thread, huh?

Yeah old thread, I search before I post.
If I recall correctly, every signal output (except ground) on the truck's trailer-towing plug is fed out through a relay to protect the truck's wiring in the event of a mis-wire or short in the trailer's wiring.
Do you read wiring diagrams? If so, I'll PM you a source for the 2000's stuff.

I can read some diagrams, would appreciate anything. My 2000 didn't come with any manuals or anything.
Inside you have to have two relays. When they add the trailer-towing package, they don't put at least one of those relays into it's socket. If you need one, it's Ford p/n FOAB-14B192-AA, but any good Bosch automotive relay will plug right in (you may have to trim off a mounting tab).
You know that you can download an Owner's Manual free-of-charge? It has both diagrams (there's another fuse panel under your instrument panel), and descriptions what each fuse does.

Go check to be sure you have the relay in the doghouse, and check to be sure that Fuse 24 is good. It's in the other fuse box, and is the red, 10-amp one that is in the right-most row, third spot down from the top. Note that not all spots are filled, so the one you want is the second "installed" fuse down, right beside another red one in the middle row.
PM sent to you.
