Axle Gears
My truck has 4:10 gears and my fuel mileage sucks. It's an auto and does not have manual lock hubs. I don't pull anything heavy anymore. Would I be better off changing the gears? and if so, what would be a goo number?

you should get you some 355 gears if you want good fuel mileage 1 time and 1 time only i have gotten 24.7 mpg but usually it is about 18 mpg with city/highway drivin but never lower than 16 no matter how hard i drive it

Ive got a 5spd with 4.10's and manual hubs and after I changed my fuel pump the other day Im getting about 19.75 mpg used to get 17.5 with a dying fuel pump. It caused the fuel pressure to fluctuate from stroke to stroke 50, 80, 53, 55, 77, 50, etc., that was with a shim. now it get a solid 70 with the shim. I had a small leak through the weep hole til last week when it decided to go from a 1/2 tank leaving my house and a 1/4 when I got to work 12 miles later that got me to change it now, that and the pump only being $50. Ill swtich it to electric later was gonna do that when I switched it but being xmas and all,...

Though changing to 3.55:1 gears sounds like it should save you money on fuel, think about the expense of making the swap. You might find that you'll never save enough on fuel to make it cost effective.
