Exhaust ??
Does anyone have any recommendations on exhaust? I just finished my motor (351M) 79 F150 4WD Extended Cab. (With lots of help from you guys, thanks by the way, runs great!!) Anyway, I was considering headers and you guys recommended stock manifold with dual exhaust. I think of dual exhaust as straight off the manifold all the way back. The truck has a catalytic converter so the exhaust shop wants to run a Y off the converter to the rear. It’s the law, so ……? My question is this just a California law? I am in the Army and being transferred to Montana this summer, would I be better off to wait until I get there or will I be faced with the same problem? Does this really matter, or is this what is meant by dual exhaust? Does anyone have a similar set up with exhaust they are really happy with? I want something that sounds good but does not drive you crazy listening to it!!
Thanks for the help…as always!

Welcome to Montana!!! You dont have to worry about the converter here. Anything around where I live has dual exhaust and no cats on it. I have had no problems with the emission cops. As for mufflers go with glasspacks. They are inexpensive and they last a long time. I dont know about the headers unless you are running a highly modified engine. Good luck

Exhaust ??
Joel, each state has different regulations, and Nitro seems to know his state. You will not find a shop in NC that will remove a cat. unless they are replacing it. I beleive it is a federial mandated law, that carries a $50,000.00 fine for removal. Vehicle inspection is where that would be caught if inspected for. I gutted one on a 79 van that I had, and ran it for years. Emission inspections were introduced and the engine would have had to have had all that stuff replaced including the cat, so I sold the truck instead.
I beleave like you that duals are L & R side out to the rear. I am seeing that a connector between the L & R just behind the tranny allows better breathing for both sides. The Flowmaster mufflers make a boss sound. If you can hookup your old system, and run it until you leave Calf. could be a good move for you.

In the still cool hours of the night, you can hear chevys rusting away.
