Start with skimming through the 2 posts at the TOP that say READ FIRST: Glow plugs. If your truck is 87-up go here: https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/9...le-system.html

Don't worry about it until it quits coming on or won't start. If you have it plugged in anyways. Otherwise you have to test them with an ohm meter individually.

hook a test light up to the positive battery terminal and touch the top of each of the plugs with the tester. Make sure to remove the connectors first. If the tester lights, the plug is good.

This doesn't really tell if it is good but if it doesn't light it is bad.
You can test them with a ohmmeter but it has to be capable of reading .5 ohms and a lot of them will not.

Correct and so many make the assumption if the light lights it's gotta be good. That's the difference between static and dynamic testing.

IF the test light lights, then chances are that the plug is good.

The 84 glow plug system don't care if the glow plugs are burnt out or not.

It uses coolant temp and a timer to heat the glow plugs.

So the only test is either the ohm test or the test light test, with the ohm test being the most accurate.

If you have a battery charger with a meter, you could disconnect the GPs and power them up with it. If they draw 10 amps or more, they're good. If not, they're bad.
