It dies after engine warms up, usually will run for about 30 minutes. I have isolated it to the 6 wire connector at the base of the distributor(i guess for the ICM). if engine is cold, i can start it and push this connector any direction, with force and there is no issue. Once the engine has warmed, if i barley push it forward the engine dies. I think this is my same issue that happens while driving, after engine warms. do not understand it, but pretty sure this is my problem.
How do i fix? do i have to replace the distributor?
Thanks, for the help. I have had the Bronco for 10 years and it has been very reliable.
Sounds to me like a broken wire. When the insulation on the wire is cold,it is stiff, keeping the broken ends connected and when it warms up,it's more pliable and lets the wire ends or connector ends separate. They could be broken inside the coating or at the end where they connect to the connector piece or even right at the module. It may be tough to find, but replacing your distributor probably won't do it.Replacing your module would take care of half of the wires and replacing the pick-up coil in the distributor would replace the other half.I think, it's been a few years since I ran that ignition, but I think that is the what you have.Disregard everything,I see on the other posts that you have the TFI type. When you replace the module on that one,be sure and use the special grease that comes with it,goes on the surface that contacts the distributor,as that is what keeps it from over heating.
