I can't get my 00 F250 V10 to start. I changed the oil the other day and drove it about 50 miles with no problem shorty after the oil change. It started and drove fine. After sitting for about 24 hours I went out to start it and nothing happened. I assumed it was the battery or bad connection to the battery I replaced the wire terminals and had the battery tested. Battery was ok and I know the truck is getting power because the headlights, horn dome lights, etc all work. However, when I go to crank it, it makes a short crank sound (about a second) then nothing. It doesn't click or anything. It'll make that sound every time I try to start it. I replaced the starter, checked all the fuses and everything looks good. The alternator was replaced a year ago and it shows a good voltage on the dash so I don't think its that. The oil level is good, coolant level unchanged, spark plugs fairly new. It still won't turn over after all of this or even make a clicking noise. Any suggestions?
Maybe a bad relay or something else easy that I'm overlooking? Any kind of help would be great.
I'd pull some plugs and make sure you don't have a hydraulic lock if for some reason coolant got into a cylinder or an injector failed and dump raw fuel into a cylinder, If this is the case you could bend a rod trying to start it.
I looked at some of the schematics and documentation and found this. Starting at the ignition switch power goes through a fuse I believe it is position 20 in the central junction box. Then it goes to the DTR or digital transmission range sensor or you could call it safety nuetral switch. From there it energizes a starter motor relay. This relay supplies voltage to what looks like the solenoid for the starter. It is located under the hood on the passenger side above the wheel well close to the fender.
3000 FPS... I appreciate that info... did you get that online cause I would love to see a diagram of that. I installed a new starter and didn't fix it, so thinking maybe the ignition switch is bad I went back and manually jumped the starter with a pair of pliers (touching the two contacts together) and it did the same thing, made a crank sound for about a second and then stopped. I went and talked to a ford mechanic today and he didn't have a clue. He said maybe the starter wasn't getting enough power but by jumping it manually should have tested that? I don't think its the timing chain cause I had that replaced about 14 months ago. I can't get enough clearance to manually turn the crank pulley so I can't tell if the engine is locked up. Anyone know a good ford mechanic in the Memphis TN area.
