I had my truck plugged in all day long and when I pulled the plug out I noticed one of the slots on the plug was toast. I used the extision cord for my battery charger and drop light with no problem but latter on when I tryed to plug in the truck a mojor blue spark arced on the toasted side of the plug. What gives? Block heater is shorted out?
You really need a 10 gauge cord on those things and as short as possible. I would bet you shorted the cord too.
I don't even bother plugging mine in unless it's below 10 overnight. I already have two water trough heaters and an electric fence going on that power line. It always starts up just fine. Below 10 degrees I just have to cycle the glow plugs twice is all.
largest shortest cord possible, sounds liek yours overheated from too much amp draw, would also help to have it on a switch so that you are not arcing the connection.
I just had sorta the same thing happen to me except the cord burnt all the back to the block heater I had fixed the end on the block heater cord a couple of times but that time it fried the whole thing so I went out and got a new cord for 20 bucks and no more problems by the way the new style I got threads on to the block heater not like the original that is held in by some cheezy clip.
