will front axle damage?
hello i am new member and i have a question to a mechanic expert. i back up my 1994 ford F150 4X4 on my icy drive way by not locking the 4X4 hub outside. i went out to buy grocery but could not go further as i got stucked in the middle of the road. when put to drive position the truck won't go a good samaritant help me by telling to put the gear into manual and try shift to 4X4hi. i was able to do and proceed to go to the store. my problem now is i hear this kind of thug noise when i make a right and left turn it seem the truck is bouncing. the truck is drivable on 4X4hi would that short run of unlocked 4X4 will damage the front axle. your help is appreciated. thank you

If I understand your question, you absolutely cannot drive your truck on dry pavement with the four wheel drive engaged. As you've already noticed, the truck will hop and skip until something breaks. If you're lucky it will be a u-joint, if not, repairs will get expensive fast. The 4x4 system is only designed to be used on slippery surfaces.
