yes no brakes at all. Mechanic said that it was either the hydro booster or master cylinder. There are no leaks in the break lines or or at the calipers. When you push down on the pedal it just goes to the floor. The reservoir is full and is not leaking nor is the master cylinder.
Hate to break the news to you guys, but u were wrong. It was the hydrobooster. I got the truck back today, and the breaks are like brand new. It will stop on a dime.
I fail to see how that could happen, but you never know....
This sparks a bunch of research for me, because now I have to know why the pedal went to the floor as a result of a bad hydroboost unit, given the fail-safe design.
Would you be willing to ask your mechanic the exact nature of the failure?
I agree. I also would like to know more. The hydroboost system hasn't changed much in decades. A problem causing a brake pedal to feel like stepping on a plum isn't a symptom of which I am aware.
(with apologies to C.W.McCall!)
I'm in agreement with you guys - it should have been the hydrobooster.
I had a GMC with a hard brake pedal and I replaced the vacuum booster and all was fine.
There is something else going on there or maybe there is some sort of bypass that is acting up.
Interesting.
