if it turns out to be the IWE solenoid that's on the firewall, that part only costs around $30-$40 and can be installed easily yourself. This is the most common failure along with a vacuum leak. The IWE actuators on the hub can be spendy to replace.
Take a hammer and lightly tap your 4x4 shift solenoid on the back of the transfer case. that solenoid (motor) likes to freeze up. the hammer action will loosen it up and allow it to shift
