Speedo cable part number question

Incorrect, D4AZ17260D is for a 1974/78 LTD/Mercury Marquis w/o speed control.
You need to be more specific when asking this question.
What 1979 4WD do you have, F150, F250 or F350 (or a Bronco)? Is it an A/T or a M/T? Does it have part time drive or full time drive?
There are FOUR different speedo cables listed for 1979 F100/350 4WD's.
What's wrong with the cable you have now?
btw: The speedometer driven gear on the end of the cable does not come with it.

D7TZ17260J replaced D3TZ17260H / Fits: 1973/79 F100/250 4WD & 1979 F350 4WD all with Part Time 4WD.
No Ford Dealer or obsolete parts vendor has D7TZ17260J.
D3TZ17260H = WESLEY OBSOLETE PARTS in Liberty KY has ONE: 606-787-5293 / GREEN SALES CO. in Cincinnati OH has ONE: 800-543-4959.
No Ford Dealer, no other obsolete parts vendor has any.

Do you really need a new cable?
You didn't answer my question of what is wrong with your old speedometer cable.
Inside the cable's outer housing is a woven steel core which is supposed to be lubed every so often with a thin film of white lithium grease.
What happens: The lube dries out, the woven steel core binds up inside the housing and snaps into two pieces.
EVERY autoparts store sells a "universal" woven steel core kit. You cut it to length, lube it and install it in the housing.
