Voltage Regulator

Hey guys I have a 1986 F150 and the voltage regulator went bad on it on my way home last night in the rain. I know lots of fun. But first off I have a 1986 F150 is the regulator in the alt itself or is it external? Second I "Boiled the battery" I Started to smell that rotten egg smell and stopped to check it all out. So my question is then is did I ruin the battery by overcharging it? Thanks

The voltage reg is attached to the ALT with 4 torx screws, you will have to remove the ALT to get to it. As for your battery, it is possible you might have warped the plates, but I would just give it a try and see if it still starts OK.

Jim seems sure you have the regulator on the alternator, so we will go with that. But you are near the year when they started doing that, so if you don't see it on the alternator, look on the passenger side fender near the starter solenoid for a silver box.
