4r44e Trans problems 95 Ford Explorer
My son has a 95 Ford Explorer with 4r44e trans. On his way home from college the o/d light started flashing. We had the codes read and are getting 646/647. Its seems to be shifting ok on 1-2-3 shift but acts like it has no o/d. When I clear the codes out and turn o/d off it seems to be ok. When the o/d light is flashing it shifts the same until the light comes on then it shifts rough, which I know is limp mode. It has enginc braking on 1 and 2, the fluid is red and doesnt smell burned. Engine RPM is 2600 @ 65mph regardless if o/d is on or off. I took it to 2 different trans shops and after pulling codes they recommended replacing or rebuilding. The trans was rebuilt 2 years ago and it worked fine until this. I'm hoping that it possibly is valve body or solenoid related. Thanks for any help.
