I have done a lot of work to my truck and it still runs 14.0, which is fast for a 4200lb vehical but I want much faster. I am about to chop the bed and frame down to 6ft. I know that stock short beds are 6.5 but I want an advantage over other short beds. I know this is a lot of work but what i want to know is has one of you guys done it and how much faster was your truck after? And who did you buy your custom lenth aluminum drive shaft off of?
nat, first we can write a stern message and hang a smily face on the end and hopefully it wont be taken as a personality attact to a dumb question, like thinking that you can make your truck much faster by cutting 18 in. out of the center of the bed. :-)

Who cares what the Chevy guys think. They can't catch us anyways, unless they are on the end of my tow rope. Being one that asks dumb questions on a regular basis, I can appreciate the smiley faces. Still in the learning phase of F100 Physics. You have an ambitious project there. Would it be easier to take out the inner fenders, remove the bumpers (replace front with a 2x6, leave rear completely off), go to a net tailgate, remove bench seat and go to a single bucket, run with just enough gas in tank to get you to the bottom of the track. Just an opinion, I would hate to chop up my truck, make a mistake (all too common with me), or in a few years decide to put it back to original. Take care and good luck,
Nathanael, Is wanting to tell us what he has done to his truck so far.
So tell us Nathanael.
I bet you will get a lot of ideas from the guys here My self, I'm not a race guy but I do like to watch people argue differant ways to accomplish the same goal.
yo:
do what the dudes said so far.....Remove instead of cutting: inner fenders, door panel, rear bumper, all trim, esp interior and headliner (fire safety items, carpeting/mat, glove box door, grille, gate, radio, a/c, p/s,
check Ford Racing for the aluminum shaft or #####'s of arizona (are they still in business? i bought a steel one for my 78 bronco 2 years ago from them..excellent piece~)
fiberglass "fuel cell" that holds the min needed.
see Summit and other speed suppliers for manifolds/cms/carbs/etc and alum accessories such as the starter, electric water pump/fan, under drive pulleys, and so on.....
but the NO set up kills me...i love that stuff~
wish i was there now to help.....my knee is healing now.....would love to help you strip it and spend money!
good luck!

Hey jo here's a tip, if your going to type a message for thousands of people to read (or try to read in your case)try and at least act as if your not illiterate. Also thank you hollabau and AIM for your ideas. Jay; I already run my truck on av-gas only( The airport is closer than the gas station), thanks for the tip anyway. Brady; I'm already saving for it and dream of it hourly. Another thing jowilker, if I cut 18" out of the center of my bed I wouldn't have any wheel wells.
nat, what part of cutting 18 in. out of the center of the bed, WILL NOT make you truck a lot faster did you not understand?? You have to have some weight in the rear to make traction. Put a faster reving engine in the front.
Rest asured I don't wanabe screwing up a good truck with no stinking sawsall.

i have seen this take of your bed and build a bed out of wood. not solid just so it looks like a bed then put that on instead of your metal one. it wil make you lighter. saw it in a hotrod mag.

69, I can lift a 8ft bed by myself and move it. I have done it. I will stick by what I said, screwing with the bed aint what the truck needs to make it go a "LOT FASTER". OK

Any one who has driven a unfinished truck with no bed on it at all knows that you need a certain amount of weight for traction I wonder if Nathan has ever experimented with actually adding ballast to keep the rear wheels to the pavement hard.
I have stated before that I am not a speed guy but, seems like the front of the truck should be lightened up as much as possible before going to the back.Perhaps some weight transfer (like battries) Hey, I'm just a little bored and thought I had 2 cent's worth to keep this thread going. He may not lose any traction at all for all we know, Some guys just take this way to serious, any time you look for opinions on the internet you will get many different ones some good some bad.:7 It would help to talk more about what he has already done to the truck but, apparently he's gotten pissed off because he did not like someones opinion.Waaah!:-(
