air conditioning

I am interesting in putting air conditioning on my 65 F100. I am not interested in breaking the bank to do it. Is their a less expensive way than Old Air or Vintage Air. I would not mind an under dash unit if it looking basically stock. It sure gets hot here in Texas and I need some relief in my old daily driver. Any ideas?

check out www.autokrafters.com, they have an aftermarket kit that will probably bolt up to your existing motor. If I recall it includes ductwork, controls, etc. I think it even runs on the newer refridgerant. The cost on the kit is around $1000.00 for everything. Its worth looking into.

Got some more info for you. Autokrafters does have an air conditioning kit available for your truck. Look for "Sure Fit" Air Conditioning systems. The price in my catalog is $1,050.00. According to the description the kit comes with everything you need from ducts to pulleys. I don't know how well the product works, but I may try to get it myself sometime for my truck. Good Luck!

When I was living in San Antonio.. I got a quote from Vintage Air for my '64 of $1000 (installing it myself).. That seems in line with AutoKrafters.. just a thought...

Look in Hemmings Motor News, there is an outfit in Fort Worth with underdash A/C. It will still be close to the $1000 mark. Do not try to get by with used stuff as parts are often hard to find and time you have new barrier hoses made up to run R-134 you will have a bunch of money in the old stuff. If you truck is in good shape without a rusty body, the A/C is a good investment... I personally hate heat rash on my behind...my '72 has functional factory air!
